These are the clips Phix plays when you first open it. Each one starts on the damaged photo and ends on the result.

Getting a good copy of the print

Phix works from the picture you give it, so a clean copy of the print gives it more to work with.

  1. Take it out of the frame

Glass and plastic sleeves throw glare across faces. Slide the print out first if you can do it safely.

  2. Use daylight, not the flash

Stand near a window. A flash bounces off glossy paper and leaves a white spot the AI has to guess around.

  3. Hold the phone flat above it

Keep the phone parallel to the print, so the edges stay square and nobody looks stretched.

  4. Fill the screen

Get close enough that the photo fills the frame. You can shoot it from inside the app or pick it from your library.

What the app does

Mends the damage

Scratches, cracks and stains come out, and small torn corners get filled in.

Adds natural color

Black and white and sepia prints come back in full color, so you can see the dress, the car and the garden as they were.

Keeps a history

Every finished photo is saved with its original in History on your iPhone, until you delete it.

No account needed

Open the app and start. Photos go to the AI only to make your result, and the results stay on your phone.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of damage can Phix fix?

Scratches, cracks, creases, stains, fading and small torn areas. Where a piece of the photo is missing, the AI fills it with its best guess, so look closely at faces.

Will the people still look like themselves?

Phix aims to keep every face as it was. It still has to rebuild detail that damage or blur hid, so compare the result with the original before you print it, and keep the original.

Do I need a scanner?

No. A picture of the print taken with your iPhone works. Daylight, no flash and the print out of its frame give the best copy.

Is Phix free?

Phix is free to download. Restoring photos needs Phix Premium, a subscription with unlimited restorations, billed through your Apple ID. You can cancel any time in your Apple ID settings.

What happens to my photos?

Your photo goes to an AI provider only to create the result: Replicate for Fix & Colorize, and OpenRouter with Google’s model for Sharpen. The app asks before it sends the first one. Originals and results stay on your iPhone, in History, until you delete them.

Which iPhones does it run on?

Any iPhone with iOS 18 or later. Each photo is processed online, so you need an internet connection.
